Before you apply, ensure that you meet current entry requirements
If you are an international specialist and have completed the highest psychiatry qualification available in your home country, you can apply directly to the College for a specialist assessment.
Contact your local training program
Selection into the Fellowship Training Program is managed by Branch Training Committees in each Australian state and territory, and New Zealand.
You may apply to more than one local training program.
Australian Capital Territory
Psychiatry training posts will be advertised on the Canberra Health Services website and will be open from 1 July 2024 to 4 August 2024. Interviews will be held in September and October 2024. Visit Psychiatry Careers - Canberra Health Services for information on the ACT training program.
New South Wales
Applications for 2024 have closed. Round 2 applications for RANZCP Fellowship Program February 2025 intake are yet to be confirmed. For application kits and enquiries contact Linda Young, linda.young@ranzcp.org
Northern Territory
Applications for February 2025 intake will typically occur in October / November 2024. Email ranzcptrainingnt.doh@nt.gov.au or TEMHSandAODRecruitment.DoH@nt.gov.au for more information on training or recruitment.
Queensland
Selection interviews are held for two intakes per year: February and August. August 2024 intake application due date is 12 June 2024 and February 2025 intake application due date is 23 October 2024. Visit Queensland Health for information on the QLD training program.
South Australia
Applications usually open in May and close in late June. Interviews dates are 12-13 August 2024. Email Debra Wisdom, debra.wisdom@sa.gov.au course coordinator at the SA Psychiatry Branch Training Committee, if you would like more information on the application process and timelines.
Tasmania
Dates have not been finalised, however anyone interested in joining the program should email Robert Bell, robert.bell@health.tas.gov.au
Victoria

Western Australia

General information and application documents

- You may also be asked to supply some or all of the following documents.
- After your application is received, you will proceed through the trainee selection process.
Curriculum Vitae
A current CV including all medical experience and details of past psychiatry training posts.
Academic record
A full academic record from the university where you completed your medical degree, including a certified copy of your degree (with a version translated into English if necessary).
Evidence of medical registration
A current Certificate of Registration Status or Letter/Certificate of Good Standing showing current registration from the relevant Medical Board, dated within the last three months.
If your registration has restrictions, conditions or limitations, the RANZCP requires full disclosure of the conditions, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Written statement
A brief statement of about 300 words explaining why you wish to train as a psychiatrist.
If you are already well progressed in psychiatry training, explain the aspects of psychiatry you are most interested in and your career plans in psychiatry.
Recommendations from referees
A statement of work performance from each hospital / training scheme or practice you have been employed at in the last 24 months (if applicable). You also need to provide contact details for 3 referees.
